Location
The United Institutions will be networked and facilitate comprehensive, inclusive and sustained cooperation and engagement by institutions and constituencies globally. It will be supported by a permanent secretariat and physical infrastructure for year-round in-person and virtual meetings, conferences and global forums, and will be headquartered in New York alongside the United Nations.
The location has been selected with a view to enhance system-wide coherence, coordination and integration, and to support alignment with the UN policy cycle. It will further facilitate the engagement and involvement of the permanent missions and representatives of UN member states, the UN system, visiting delegations, and the large contingent of institutions in the international community that engage at the global level and already have UN representation in New York, including international organizations, nongovernmental organizations and civil society groups across the world.
Several locations in New York are being considered for the United Institutions including locations next to the United Nations Headquarters.
The UI has been developed in consultation with the NY State Governor's Office, the New York City Mayor's Office and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
